Have you ever heard of Pippali?

You might not have heard of it, but if you've been to Pharm Table, you might have already eaten it! We use it all the time to season our healthy dishes, including the food in our Rejuvenating 3-Day Culinary Cleanse. Pippali is Kapha pacifying, which means it is a good ingredient for the winter and spring months.

Pippali, or Pippali Rasayan, is an Indian long pepper fruit and one of the most popular Ayurvedic herbs. The name means “to drink and digest”, which is fitting since its primary benefit is digesting and burning toxins. In the world of Ayurveda, Pippali is a powerful culinary spice and tridoshic herb, meaning it's good for all body types. These oblong pods are often ground up and used just like its cousin, black pepper, although Pippali is less spicy, more earthy-flavored, and a beautiful army green color.

The health benefits are extensive. Traditionally, Pippali has been used for colds, digestive problems, reproductive issues, insomnia, cramps, congestion and many other ailments. In fact, South Texans who suffer from allergies might appreciate its soothing abilities. Throw a little Pippali on just about any dish or visit us at Pharm Table for lunch or dinner, and we'll put a dash on for you!
